Its most significant application is in intumescent fire-retardant coatings for steel structures and wood, where it acts as both a gas source and a catalyst to form a protective char layer during a fire. In the plastics and polymer industry, it is widely used in glass-fiber-reinforced nylon (PA6/66) and polyolefins to meet stringent fire safety standards. Additionally, it serves as a functional additive in textile finishing and specialty adhesives, providing effective flame retardancy without compromising the mechanical properties of the base material.
