It is usually a white crystalline powder or crystal. Products with higher purity have a pure white color and no obvious impurities. It is highly soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is colorless and transparent (for example, a 4% aqueous solution is clear without turbidity). It has poor solubility in organic solvents.
