Potassium Fluoroaluminate

Potassium fluoroaluminate is usually a white or light gray powder. It is slightly soluble in water. When reacting with water above 730℃, it releases hydrogen fluoride. It slowly dissolves in strong acids and releases hydrogen fluoride. It is stable in nature, but incompatible with strong oxidants and may be sensitive to moisture.

Potassium fluoroaluminate is an inorganic fluoride salt with important applications in several industrial fields. In aluminum alloy smelting, it is used as a refining agent and drossing agent, effectively removing hydrogen gas and oxide inclusions from molten aluminum, thereby improving metal purity. In the grinding wheel and abrasive industry, it serves as an active filler for resin-bonded grinding wheels, significantly enhancing their wear resistance and cutting efficiency. In brazing applications, it is a key flux component for aluminum and aluminum alloys, effectively removing oxide films and promoting solder flow and wetting. Additionally, it finds applications in glass etching, ceramic glazes, and fire-retardant coatings. Its advantages include good thermal stability and a moderate melting point, but proper protective measures should be taken to avoid dust inhalation during use.
